I received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 2009 from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, located in Syracuse, New York. Within the 5-year program I focused on urban and community design, with the integration of sustainable design practices in tactical urbanism.
While in Syracuse, I worked with community groups seeking to regenerate their neighborhoods by adaptively reusing existing housing stock and turning vacant lots into productive foodscapes.
I've traveled extensively in Europe and North America, documenting urban open spaces. In Barcelona, Spain, I spent 14 weeks studying three contemporary urban parks and their innovative handling of stormwater with relation to human interaction.
Upon graduation I relocated to Toronto, Ontario, to work at Fleisher Ridout Partnership Inc., a full service landscape architecture firm. There I became involved at various levels of the design and construction documentation process, on residential, commercial, and institutional projects. The project types varied in scale from master planning to urban parks, residential and streetscape design. I often served as a specialist in three-dimensional visualization and environmental design, including bio-swales, raingardens, riparian restorations, and native plantings.
Outside of my work at FRP, I gathered extensive research and photographs from around Europe and North America, studying the use of water in urban environments: for its value to the public as an amenity, and for the potential to capture and filter water on site. In the spring of 2010, I traveled to Shanghai for the World Expo, documenting the new architecture and landscapes that were built for the expo.
My experience at FRP has included: Streetscape design and visualization for the City of Hamilton Innovation District; contract document preparation for GREENPEACE Toronto; detailed design and contract document preparation for the Cadillac Fairview Corporation, Hillcrest Mall; masterplaning for Victoria Park in the City of Orillia; park signage study and design for the City of Orillia; heritage trail element design and layout for the City of Toronto; and a comprehensive landscape plan for the new Research in Motion campus in Waterloo, Ontario.
